Helloooo!!!
Pardon me for my disappearance, I've been too busy bumming around doing nothing that even typing replies on facebook feels like it takes so much effort.
Yes, thats PeiLian the LAZY pigfish for you, ladies and gentleman.
Anyhows. Updates???
I am currently in Edinburgh, messing up tuapui pei's room with my undies, snoring everynight so she can barely get any sleep, and eating her food supplies dryyy so she can berdiet.( hehe. After doing the same to Helen i decided its ahpei's turn. Ahh the joys of being my friends. =) *grinnss* )
I've been here for more than a week now, the weather is gloom GLOOM GLOOMY most days (bleah) but I had my fair share of 'the Fringe' ( the yearly summer Edinburgh festival, which according to ahpei is very popular among holidayseekers ). =) There's sooooo many events going on at the same time its CRAZY. They have a telephone-book-thickness worth of gigs, comedies, theatres, etcetc going on for 2weeks in many different venues in Edin. So far I've watched a comedy ( which was real good =) ) and a martial arts thingy ( which was not good =( )
Oh oh and I walked down Royal Mile where there were loads of highly entertaining street performances, i left with a silly smile on my face. ( I'll post pictures when I actually get to upload them )
Other than that, I fed starving-scary-huge swans in a hurry ( no enjoyment in that whatsoever coz the swans started heading towards pei n i it was FREAKY. I just threw all the bread at them and we RAN FOR OUR LIVES. ) Hahahahahahahahaha. =) But the long walk there and back was very relaxing =) and beautiful =)
Edinburgh is so beautiful from every corner it makes you want to retire here with the love of your life when you're old. Sitting in the patio sipping a cup of tea whilst looking at the majestic view Author's seat provides, reflecting on the life you had. OMG i'm already sounding like an old retired aunty.. NOOOOOOOO. =S hahaha. =)
On another note, this is a shoutout for Meiilin ( I hope she reads this )
Dearest Meilin,
I read your recent blog posts and it saddens me to see that you're struggling with the new life you have back home.
At the same time, your confusion, anger and helplessness are so real, and all for the right reasons. It makes me think, and also fear, the not-so-far future that lies ahead for me in the country we call home.
However, as a friend I hope and pray every day that you do not despair in the face of all these oppression. Always remember it is only for a year, and always keep your eyes on the goal. That is, to be a teacher loved by your students for being who you are, and not who you are told to be. That individuality, in the way you interact with your students, and the way you reach out to them, is what I believe, the one thing they cannot take away from you.
Many things in later life as we go along will frustrate us, and we would want to scream out to them to open their eyes and see the world in a wider perspective, but I'm afraid the sad reality is that there is not much we can do to change much in a short period of time. And my lack of experience in this doesn't give me any credit to spell out the best way to deal with this when it comes, but i believe it makes it easier if you put your happiness more on little things every day, like a student you personally helped. Or a project you single-handedly managed for the benefit of your students. ( that is, when you're a teacher =) )
Keep your eyes on the prize, on the job satisfaction you will surely achieve when you're out of that place. That is how my parents managed to survive their 30 odd years of teaching career. It does not come without heartache or headache, but it does also come with a little bit of cheer now and again.
My prayers,
Pei Lian xxx
