The teeth that walks and the heart that breaks.

Today at Dental Trade fair there was FREE LUNCH and most importantly, WALKING TEETH!

This little bugger managed to amuse Ailing n myself, but not the rest of the group. We wind it up, and let it run loose on our hands and the chair, squealing in delight with the cuteness of it all.

HAHAHA. Your future dentists, EH? =)

To add to your amusement, is the snails that Abdullah( my clinical partner) and I drew in between lectures.

I have SNAILS drawn on every reachable person's notes, ie. ailing, mingwei, momo, even the very-reluctant paran and wenghong. Wakakakaka. =)

Is there any cure for childish-ness?

Anyways. Yesterday was a happy happy day for me. Clinics in the morning went well, and abdullah's patient even brought chocolates for us both! =) It really feels good when patients appreciate what we do for them. =)

In my super-excited mode I walked over to my tutor who was working with another patient and said, " Mrs. Pett, would you like some chocolates? "

And turned to the patient on the seat and said, " Would YOU like some too? "

And my tutor looked at me in disbelief.

OOPS.

"PEI LIAN, ARE YOU OFFERING THE PATIENT CHOCOLATES ON A DENTAL CLINIC? "

OOOOOOOOOOOOOPPS. DIE, DIE, DIE.

" I'm gonna have to re-grade you." And everyone burst out in laughter.

I was sooo embarrassed, and I didn't realise I quickly pulled back the box of chocolates and walked away whilst the patient was all ready to take some.

HAHAHAHAHA. After which my tutor came to me and said, " well I'll allow you to offer some chocs ONLY if you tell the patient to have the chocolates with his meal."

More laughter from my colleagues.

And the patient, who was teeth-less at that time because he had his dentures removed, laughed out LOUD as well, clearly VERY-amused with the whole scenario.

Sighh.

All in all I thought it was quite a wonderful morning with a good amount of laughter, but the day got better in the afternoon.

My PARCEL ARRIVED!

YAY! Thanks to Mummy and Papa my supply of 3in1 coffee from HOME is replenished! And lots of other foodstuff was in it too~ 10kgs of homey-cooking ingredients goodness! =)

xxx

On another note, I received very bad news from a friend today. No words could console or relieve the pain she's going thru right now, and it saddens me alot.

Again the same question comes to mind, why is life so scarily unpredictable? How do we deal with the shitty-ness of it all?

=(

The socks that didn't match.

Today I went to class with 2 different skin coloured socks. ( Thank God for my long black pants so it wasn't that obvious heh)
I am actually quite embarassed with this, *face turns RED*, but then I thought, since it amused the hell out of a few of my friends when I showed them, I thought WHY NOT. =)
NO I did not put on 2 different shades on purpose. It was dark, and I didn't want to disturb yiyian from her sleep, so I just randomly grabbed my socks and put them on. Hahahahaha and when I was at ENDO class cleaning roots in plastic blocks, I got bored halfway thru and looked at my feet. ( No its not what I usually do when im fidgety, it just so happened larr =) )
xxxx
Watching K.I.S.S- Because I'm a Girl after dinner made me tear. Emo-fied. And its not even the first time I watched it. Used to watch it again n again in college.
My favourite part in the clip: It was raining and the guy brought a black umbrella for the girl. The girl was happy-fied for 2 seconds, and then the guy took out another pink umbrella for himself.
And the girl got angry. Threw her umbrella, and walked away in the rain. The guy chased her, and together they walked under the same umbrella.
Awwwwwwwwwwww so sweet. =)
I wonder if guys understand why the girl reacted that way.
"...sarangi jonbui nanun yojainika.."
(...because I'm a girl, to whom love is everything... )

How do you deal with insecurities you face in life?

Sunday 27 January 2008

Happy 19th, dearest sis!

I can no longer call you my 'little' sister, for little no longer you are...

OMG 19, Pei Ting!!! =) Time really does fly, doesn't it? Scaryyy.

Thinking of you, i suddenly remembered this time when you were 8 and I was 12. We were sharing a room, and every night the fan makes a creaking sound whilst it spins. Somehow the sound managed to freak us out so much every night that we would gather our pillows bolsters stinkysoft toys blankets etcetc to the corner of our beds not directly under the fan for fear that it would drop down on us while we're sleeping and KILL us both.

hahahahaha the thought of it still never fails to amuse me. You'll have to forgive your silly ol' sister (mua) for influencing and scaring the hell out of the then young and innocent YOU by my crazy imaginations. =)

I miss you. =(

I wish you a very blessed 19th birthday, my thoughts and prayers are for you on this day.. may you always be happy and successful! =)

Have a wonderful day!

Love, hugs and kisses,
Your sister.
Matters of the heart are never-ending if given time and too much attention.
Reminder : Think with your head, not your heart, Pei Lian.

The weekend was mostly spent curled up in bed, with the worst tonsilitis I ever had in a long time. The pain has spread to both my ears, and every time I swallow, its painful. No amount of medication helped so far, and to date, I've dosed myself silly with paracetamol, aspirin, strepsils, and lozenges, even chinese meds.

12 strepsils a day, is that overdoing it? Coz when I read the back of the box, it states,

DO NOT EXCEED THE STATED DOSE. ie. one lozenge every 2-3 hours.

I took 1 lozenge every 30mins or less. As soon as I finished sucking one, I popped another. DIE.

And not that it really helped. =( I am still in pain.

good thing I had my favourite book with me in bed, so it helped distract me from my misery. This is the 2nd time I'm reading P.S. I Love You by Cecilia Ahern, but the story still has its heart-wrenching effect. Poor Holly, and dear sweet Gerry. I couldn't agree more, everybody does need a guardian angel.

Reflection of the day :

" Do not judge, and you will not be judged : because the judgements you give are the judgements you will get, and the amount you measure out is the amount you will be given. "

Matthew 7:5, 1-3

Rito, I'm off! Oh btw the porridge I had for lunch today was YUMMY-licious.. I'm so happy with my improving cooking skills! =)

Thursday 24 January 2008

Sniffles. Swallow. Sniffles again. Swallow.

Every breath I take, every swallow I make...

Every single day, every time I'm awake..

I'll be in PAIN. =(

Yes its the flu-sorethroat-feverish season of the year again.

Picture of the day : A cutie I saw last summer during my trip to Singapore. Isn't he just a.d.o.r.a.b.l.e?

Next post : Picture of my dream guy. Promise. *peilian chuckles*

Yiyian's here! =) She came from Preston to stay over in Manchester for her SSC which she has to complete in a month's time. It really feels like I have a roommate again, like the good old college days.

Room D211, MARA College Banting, where my roommate YinHui and I resided for a full 2 years.

In spite of our room being next to the dust bin overflowing with rubbish during the weekends coz the cleaners don't come then, next to the toilets filled with shreeking girls lining up with their toiletry pails to take their showers at 7pm, super small that there's no space for even a tiny shoe rack, and barely any space for books it has to be stacked up on/under our beds...

The experience of living in a boarding school, was unforgettable. =)

I know this is going to sound like super-the-cannot-take-it-lameness, but I miss my 'Malaysian' pillow. ( Now is there even such a thing ). It has been soaked in tears, thrown in lots of laughter, and added comfort when friends visit.

Also my small wardrobe for my big collection of baju-kurungs.( traditional Malay costume which we had to wear to class every day ) I have 11! Hahaha for a chinese girl who had none to start with, I should say it was quite an achievement! =)

And then there is this common sights in D211, like me offering my roommate food, and her refusing it.

And then the routine fruit-cutting, story-sharing sessions every day after dinner in my room. Just like Malacca was 'tempat persinggahan pedagang' ( where sailors/ merchants harbour when they cross the Straits of Malacca ), my room was 'tempat persinggahan kawan'. =) *teehee

Ah. Those were the days. =)

On another note, I don't know if its the cold+ rainy+ horrid weather, or 3 hours of continuous ( almost ) tutorial on endo this morning and more on ortho in the afternoon, that I felt like suffocating at one point.

Now I feel feverish. NOOOOOOOOO. =(

Love cures people, the ones who receive love and the ones who give it too.
There comes a time in your life when you realize, that if you stand still, you will remain at this point forever.
You realise that if you fall and stay down, life will pass you by.
Life's circumstances are not always what you might wish them to be. Rather than wondering about or questioning the direction your life has taken, accept that there is a path before you now.
Walk your path one step at a time. Keep your head up, and cast your dreams to the stars.
Keep your belief in yourself and walk into your new journey. You will find it magnificent, spectacular and beyond your wildest imaginings.
It is necessary to be emo at times. It is only human. =)

The 'LEGENDARY' telephone conversation.

I'm sure many people would agree with me on this : Nutella is DAMN GOOD STUFF.

Tomone's new website is ALL READY and set to go, she just sent me the link!

*teehee* I have to say I was pretty excited to see how it would turn up to be.

We did a telephone recording on her 'planned visit' to Malaysia, and she set up a whole website with listening tests, comprehension questions etc. revolving around it. Its part of her assignment for her course ( She's doing phD now in Teaching English as a Second Language ), and she has been working on it for quite awhile!

The telephone conversation was what I would call : LEGENDARY. ( Yes, indeed self-praise is no praise at all, but trust me, you won't say that I'm self-praising after listening to it. )

I sent it to my friends, and I got them REALLY amused. Like I'm not even joking.

The conversations on msn typically went like this :

pEiLiAn sends : 'THE RECORDING'

x says : Oh. Whats that.

pEiLiAn says : Just listen to it la.

x says : Oh Ok. Why so mysterious.

pEiLiAn says : Err.

...

1 minute later..

x says : Hahahahahahahahaha

pEiLiAn is typing a msg...

x says ( again ) : Hahahahahahahahahahaha

pEiLiAn says : Err. That bad ka.

x says : Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

pEiLiAn says : Eh NOT THAT funny OK.

x says : Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

pEiLiAn says : Talk to me.

x says : Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

The 'Hahahahahahah's' went on for as long as the recording lasted. And each time it got longer and longer.

*sweat*

So here it is folks, for your full entertainment. =)

Thumbs up to Tomone though, for a job well done! I'm sure you'll score excellent marks on this =)

"There's a raaat in ma kitchen what am I gonna do? "

What can be weirder than the combination of grilled BBQ salmon and bread with nutella for dinner? =)

Anyways.

I discovered something absolutely DISGUSTING in my kitchen today.

Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeew!!!! ( thank God it was after dinner, or I would have lost my apetite totally )

This whole rat/mouse scenario reminded me of my first year in Uni at Oak House.

The story is pretty much this:
Someone saw a rat/mouse running across whilst in the kitchen.

And then wrote a cute poem on our 'wall of doodle' which rhymes!

Luke, my flatmate then, came up with this brilliant device slash mouse-trap. With a piece of cheese in the bottle. The logic behind this invention, I didn't quite get. He did say sth bout leading the mouse into the bottle, and 'ploop' into the blue tub it falls!! The mouse is then TRAPPED!! =)

And the books and monopoly etc act as a colourful 'attraction' so the mouse wouldn't get distracted halfway thru and decide to take another route. ( This I totally made up myself, *teehee ).

After a week/ month/2 months, nothing happened.

I still never saw the rat. Someone else would see it, but NEVER me.

Chris ( my other flatmate ) spotted the mouse one fine day.

There was a HUGE rat-chase + large commotion in the flat,

And TAADAA!!!

Mr. /Miss Mouse ( if you like) was caught alive!

And so ends the story of me n my rats.

Pei and Fathom's UL5 cavity Dental Surgery.

Only one word for today : BORINGGGGGGGG.

In order to obtain THIS, hopefully in 2 1/2 years time,

among the many assessments we would have to sit for requires lots of practice, and hence... DRILL DRILL DRILL, FILL FILL FILL. Every single week.

This Friday would be my group's assessment for our completed JOSC ( Junior Operative Skill Course ), and we would have to pass it to be allowed to 'run loose' in clinics. Drilling real teeth this time, not plastic. =) *Aaaaaaaaaa Peilian tries to shake the nerves away. * (Please God, let me not screw this up.)

My fellow dentists would understand the abbreviation I used : UL5. =) And yes, the assessment is a MO on UL5. ( mesio-occlusal surface of the upper left 5 tooth ). In 1 hour.

So bored I was in classes today, that I sang to Fatima,

" Happy birthday to you,
You were born in the zoo,
With the monkeys and donkeys,
You are one of them too. "

Heyy but I didn't mean that she was a donkey or monkey OK. =) I just wanted to ask her if she heard of this version of the song!!

I must have sang abit too loud, or everyone was bored too, that Alison and Abdullah who was working on the phantom head nearby looked across at me in bewilderment.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. And Abdullah said, "With Pei here we'll always be entertained." =)

Awwwww. =)

And then Fatima n I came up with this stupid idea of opening our own Dental Surgery, specialising in UL5 cavities ONLY! ( Mind you, not even fillings ) I don't know, maybe we just don't see the rationale behind our upcoming assessment, drilling ONE 'chosen' tooth.

I am quite lame, I have to admit.

*squiggly mouth*

....

BOREDDDDDDDDDDD.

Oh btw it wasn't even fatima's birthday. That song just randomly came to my mind. Heheh.

Monday 14 January 2008

Day OFF today!
And when I said I wanted to make year 2008 a year of less procrastination, I'm not even sure if I meant it. Urghhhh.
I meant to post this on Friday, but because PeiLian= Scatterbrain, I left my camera in Yipei's house, and hence I PROCRASTINATED. ( But only because I wanted to put some photos up, HONEST!! =) )

God has really blessed me more than I think I ever deserved.
And if you thought the story of my missing 21st birthday present Swatch watch from my parents is OVER, well.. it is not.
MeiLin's thoughtful gift in the form of a white gorgeous watch ( check http://peilian85.multiply.com/ for details ) , was yet again, destroyed by the worst destructor on earth : ME.

The clasp broke. BOO HOO. =(
And I thought, What The Hell. No more watches for me, as self-punishment. =(
But "a new leaf" came to my flat one late Friday night, with THIS.
A PINK WATCH!!!!!

And I just realised I don't have any pictures of HER alone, but THIS. Which is so damn unflattering. ( And will hence put my life in grave danger for posting it anyways. DIE.)
But hey. I didn't want to pollute the post with my face marr.

AHA. *peilian searchs, searchs and searchs*. A Much better one. ( Don't ask me why all the side views )

I wish I had that emoticon from msn with the wrigglymouth. Coz I can predict having to RUN for my life after this is posted.

I really really want to describe the watch in a little more detail, but I have ( forced ) VOCAB restrictions. Plus my LIFE to treasure after receiving some death-threats.

So I'll say what I'm allowed to say : I LOVE THE WATCH! THANK YOU, CASS!!! *hugss*

xxx

And then there is this other friend who offers me FOOD ever so generously all the time. Chocolates, countless lunches at her place, and she made us ( dentistry people) a scrumptious dinner on Saturday!

Belgian Chocolates, my fav! =)

Spicy spaghetti, honey-ed salmon, salad and chicken wings! YUMM. =)

And that friend, whom I treasure so much, is MingWei. ( Again DON't ask me whats with the side views heheh )

I made cupcakes for desert, we had wine, and played playstation, screaming our heads off. ( Wenghong must be rolling his eyes, GIRLS. *teehee* )

Is it possible to be more blessed? =)

"It is a sweet thing, friendship, a dear balm,
A happy and auspicious bird of calm..."

I have been receiving so much, its time to give.

Oshisushi, Origami by my good Ol' buddy Tomone.

Don't ask me what's with my obsession with finding words that start with the same letters. ( 'O' now, 'C' then, and more to come =) hehh)

Anyways.

This afternoon I had Japan brought to me by my very cute + polite Japanese friend, Tomone! =)
We've been friends for over a year now, and I first met her at the chaiplaincy where she came up to me after mass and said, "Hello. Are you japanese? "

Heheh and the rest was history.

She sent me a text on Thursday inviting Cassandra and myself to her house in Didsbury, to make SUSHI!

OMG u have no idea how much I love that stuff. And to learn it from a Japanese, heheh all the more to be super EXCITED!

Pic : Tomone and I carrying each other's country's flags for a church event. =)

Tomone met Cass and I at the bus station at Didsbury at 1, and we walked to her house which was 5 minutes away.

And we made OSHISUSHI!! ( pressed sushi )

Every little thing she brought out to make those sushis made me terribly excited. ( And PeiLian finds it really hard to contain her excitement if you know what I mean ) =)

So yes, there were avocados, and cute little wooden boxes to put the rice in.

The boxes are specially made for 'pressed sushis', whereby you put a layer of rice at the bottom, put the wooden lid on, and press it with all your might.

After which we arranged a layer of sliced avocados in the middle.

And then add another layer of rice on top, PRESSed again with all our might.

Finally we topped the sushi with salmon, some seeweed and some Japanese herbs.

And WALA! Yummy sushi's!!!*teehee

Ooo and I thought THAT was already a superb treat, but there was MORE! Tomone started cooking what she called "Mapo vegetables" and seaweed soup! *gloog gloog stomach rumbling, mouth salivating*

And the 3 of us settled down to a delicious-ly scrumptious meal! Ahhhhhhhhh BLISS.

Every 2 seconds I would exclaim "YUM!" to the tasty sushi. It was better than any sushi I had before, for the flavour was strong, a mixture of sour and sweet with a touch of fragrance from the rice. To add to the oomph was WASABI! And again, ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

At this point I thought I could never be happier. ( hahah the wonders of FOOD )

But the afternoon got better. We did ORIGAMI! *peilian jumps up and down like a kid*

I swear Tomone's room is a paper factory of its own. She has so MUCH PAPER! Pretty ones too!

So, with our 'Great Teacher Tomone' leading us, from papers like this, we made...

Cute li'l boxes,

Kimono's,

And the cutest boots you've ever seen! =)

And this was made by ME! =) Cute or not? Heheh =)

All in all it was an afternoon to remember. After which I came up with this to add to my 'to-do' list :

VISIT JAPAN ONE DAY!!!

Thank you, Tomone for the wonderful time spent! =)

Papa's new dentures.

This morning I called home, and mum told me papa's got himself a pair of partial dentures made. AT LAST. =)

He lost his 2 front teeth even before I was back for summer, and did nothing about it. I tried to persuade him to seek dental treatment, for his profession as a teacher in a notorious school is as you would imagine, quite un-kind-ly to his toothless smile. ( cute to me, nevertherless )

I secretly wished he was here in the UK. We've just started our partial dentures module, and soon I would expect to see my first partial denture patient.

And I wished it could have been him. Firstly because I know it would thrill him that his own daughter is making him new teeth, and secondly because it would be free of charge.

But oh well. You can't get everything that you wish for, can you? =)

I miss my dad so much.

Thursday 10 January 2008

New year, new beginnnings. Not too late for that, I hope?

So begins the new chapter of my life on this new blog site.

Ahh yes, it IS peer pressure. =)

Everyone's using blogspot for some reason, I wonder why!

I have to say though, that multiply was my first love, and it shall remain in me-most-treasured-site forever and ever and ever. =)

However because my life is getting boring-er by the day, I shall entertain myself with this site's 'fancy' offerings.

Oh. Another important thing. My blog title was a very at-the-moment-thingy. Felt the surging need for chocolate and coffee ( my 2 most favourite things ) whilst writing, and 'a little bit of care' coz it rhymes with the letter C. =) Heheh, yes lame, I know.

...

Its late, and more drilling of plastic teeth tomorrow. Sighs. But yes, T-G-I-F!!

Ciao for now!
